Mary Chuhinka Kurtz

Principal and Co-Founder

Mary Chuhinka Kurtz has over 20 years of experience in the development of business and individual investment management systems, with an emphasis on the qualified retirement plan market.

Mary is a co-founder of TLC Group Investment Advisors, LLC, a Registered Investment Advisory firm located in State College, PA. She is a Registered Representative affiliated with Leigh Baldwin & Company, LLC. In 2001, she created the financial entity Lingenfelter-Chuhinka, a firm specializing in wealth accumulation and preservation strategies, which continues today with TLC Group Investment Advisors. 

She has been featured as a speaker at The Pennsylvania State University Women’s Leadership Conference and has presented financial seminars to The Hershey Medical Center of The Pennsylvania State University and Chamber of Commerce groups.  She is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Women Advisors Investment Advisory Forum.

Mary is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

John Arrington

Investment Advisor

John Arrington has been involved in investment management and in the development of asset management systems during his career in community banking over the past 27 years.

John has partnered with TLC Group Investment Advisors, LLC as an Investment Advisor and as a Registered Representative with Leigh Baldwin & Company, LLC.  John provides holistic financial planning and investment management to individuals and businesses.

The collaboration between John and TLC Group has proven to be a mutually successful one, where John is able to draw on his experience to deliver solutions tailored to the financial needs of his clients, in an entrepreneurial environment with an independent financial services firm.  John has a versatile skill set and lends great opportunity to serve clients in new ways and provide additional, value added services.

John is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Finance.

John serves as the firm's Compliance Officer and works in conjunction with the firm's Compliance Attorneys.

John Van Buren

Retirement Plan Consultant

John Van Buren was the Regional President of BPAS, a national pension administrative and consulting firm prior to joining TLC Group Investment Advisors, LLC in 2014. Prior to his experience with BPAS, John was a founder of Alliance Benefit Group – MidAtlantic which was a regional Pension Administrative and Consulting Firm in the Philadelphia area. 

John has over 35 years of experience in the Retirement Plan and Investment Consulting area. As an Enrolled Actuary and an Investment Advisor Representative, John brings a unique blend of skills to the retirement plan field.  He participated on the committee of The Council of Independent 401(k) Recordkeepers (CIKR) to assist in the design of information requirements for the regulations for fee disclosure for 401(k) Plans.

John holds a NASD Series 65 license. He is a Member of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries and is an Enrolled Actuary with the Joint Board of Enrollment of Actuaries.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University.
